GATHERING OF THE PEOPLE (Psalm 50:1-6)
God, the LORD God, has spoken;
his summons covers all the earth,
like the sun from its rising to its setting.
God has shone forth from Zion;
perfect in its beauty
The LORD God comes and will not be silent;
consuming fire goes before the LORD
who is surrounded by raging storm.
The LORD God calls upon the heavens above
and the earth, so that he might judge his people.
Gather to e my faithful ones;
the ones that make covenant with me by sacrifice.
The heavens declare God's righteousness
and proclaim, "God, the LORD God, is judge."
Materials/Preparation: Although brief, this is a dramatic reading which lends itself to costumes, props, sound and lighting effects. Let your imagination go!
| Narrator: |
It was six days later that Jesus took Peter and
James and John with him, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured in front of them, and his clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anything on earth could bleach them. And Elijah with Moses appeared to them, talking with Jesus. |
| Peter: |
Rabbi, it is good
for us to be here; let's make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. |
| Narrator: |
Peter didn't know what to say, because he and
the other two were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud: |
| Voice: |
This is my beloved Son; listen to him! |
| Narrator: |
Then, when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had been raised from the dead. |
